Carolyn Clark Elementary School

Evergreen School District

Located in one of the few growing areas of San Jose, the Evergreen School District took on a major construction program to accommodate large residential developments within its boundaries. This project is the fourth new elementary school in the past two decades Aedis has designed for the District. Like the previous three, it was built on a site with significant challenges due to sloping topography and limited acreage.

All school facilities were housed in a single, two-story structure. Spaces were laid out in a meandering plan which followed the contours of the site. To reduce the visual impact to neighboring residents, the design used alternating one-story and two-story roof forms. Large windows were provided in all classrooms and major spaces to not only provide day-lighting, but to also take advantage of the beautiful view of the eastern foothills.
